Doris Newton

Doris Marie Newton, 86, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on November 24, 2024 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on March 30, 1938 in Davis County, Iowa to Paul Sherman and Hilda Irene Wilson Hougland. Doris graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1956. On March 4, 1957 she married Robert Lee “Bob” Newton in Benton, Missouri. Bob passed away on May 4, 2016. Doris worked as a waitress for many years before going to school at Indian Hills in Centerville to become an LPN. She then worked at the Bloomfield Care Center for 20+ years; she loved working at the care center. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed going to casinos to meet her family and friends. She was a longtime member of the Barker Church in Scotland County, Missouri. Doris will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Anna Darr of Bloomfield, Teresa Lamb of Ankeny, Iowa; three sons, Robert (Faith) Newton of Bloomfield, James (Karen) Newton of Ottumwa, Iowa, Phillip (Brenda) Newton of Bloomfield; 14 grandchildren, Michael Haskell, Matthew (Joann) Haskell, Lillian (Terry) McCarty, Baxter (Brittany) Newton, Victoria Newton, Vanessa Newton, Joe (Scotta) Ades, David (Christina) Ades, Steve (Jenn) Ades, Olivia (Josh) Hewitt, Adam (Laura) Newton, Brian (Cathi) Clark, Kyle (Daylan) Clark, Dillon Lamb; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren with another due in January 2025; four siblings, Jerry (Marilyn) Hougland, James Hougland, Virginia Mullinix, Charles (Diane) Hougland; and two sisters-in-law, Sally Hougland, and Marlene Hougland. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two great-grandchildren, Landon Newton, Zoe Clark; five siblings, Helen (Art) Fuhr, Harold Hougland, Alfred Hougland, Phyllis (Vernon) Roe, David Hougland; sister-in-law, Charlotte Hougland; and a brother-in-law, DeWayne Mullinix. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Dee Wiley officiating. Burial will be at the Barker Cemetery in Scotland County, Missouri. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Friday. Memorials have been established to the Barker Cemetery or Good Samaritan Society Hospice in Ottumwa.
