Evelyn Metzger

Evelyn Elizabeth Metzger was born December 22, 1933, in rural Larchwood, Iowa to John and Rose (Kellenberger) Moser. She was the 11th of 13 children and grew up on a farm near Larchwood. She graduated from the 8th grade at Larchwood Township Country School No. 2. Evelyn was united in marriage to Roy Metzger, also from rural Larchwood, on March 30, 1951. Roy and Evelyn were baptized in 1956 as a profession of their faith in Jesus Christ and became lifelong members of the Apostolic Christian Church. They farmed and operated a dairy north of Lester, Iowa. In 1981, they moved to Bloomfield, Iowa. There, among other things, they planted and managed apple orchards. Evelyn loved the Lord above all and had limitless love for her family. She was a devoted and loving wife. Evelyn was an efficient homemaker and enjoyed raising her children, gardening, helping outside on the farm, refinishing furniture, and sewing. She was an excellent cook and loved providing an endless supply of cookies to her grandchildren. She never complained, no matter the circumstance, and had only kind words for everyone she met. She was a rock for her children and grandchildren, always ready with a listening ear and gentle words of wisdom. Due to complications from a fall one week earlier, Evelyn passed away peacefully at home this past Thursday, April 27, 2023 surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband, Roy, of 72 years and their nine children: Debra Metzger of Bloomfield; Judy Getz of Washington, IL; Patsy (Lee) Esslinger of Hannah City, IL; Audrey (Bruce) Messner of West Bend, IA; Roy Metzger, Jr. (Eileen) of Bloomfield; Ben (Patrice) Metzger of Hot Springs, SD; Dan Metzger of West Bend, IA; Angela (Jeffrey) Birkner of Bloomfield; and Lana (Mark) Spencer of Burlington, IA. Also left to cherish her memory are 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a brother, Franklin Moser of Larchwood, IA; a sister, Janet Wysong of Hills, MN; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings and eight in-laws: Milford Moser (infant), Ione (John) DeHaan, Mariann (Elmer) Metzger, Johnny Moser, Harry Moser, Leo (Leona) Moser, Donald Moser, Betty (Paul) Leuthold, Estelle (Alvin) Leuthold, Donna (John) Gerber, Verna Moser, and Jack Wysong. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at the Bloomfield Apostolic Christian Church. Burial will be at the Bloomfield Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be on Monday from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Bloomfield Apostolic Christian Church and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
