Kinney Steven Cary

Kinney Steven Cary, 76, of Johnston, Iowa passed away at Mercy Hospice House in Johnston, Iowa on December 7, 2020. He was born February 18, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Carlon and Ethel Cary. He married Victoria Jean Mason on December 19, 1964 at the Bloomfield Christian Church in Bloomfield, Iowa. Steve worked for John Deere for 30 years. His employment began in Moline, Illinois followed by a transfer to John Deere Ottumwa Works where he retired in 1995. After retirement, Steve fulfilled his passion for traveling with his wife across the country in their fifth wheel. Eventually they moved to Johnston, Iowa to be close to their daughters and grandchildren. Steve dearly loved his wife, Vickey, and their daughters were his pride and joy. Steve lived life to the fullest. Often, he talked fondly of the summers he spent playing with his cousins on the family farm during his youth. Steve also enjoyed riding bicycles with friends and family. He always looked forward to RAGBRAI each summer. Steve cycled across Iowa 15 times. The grandchildren brought Steve so much happiness. He enjoyed planning special outings for them. They would go bicycling, watch the steam engine trains in Boone, go to the Des Moines airport to watch the jets fly overhead, and shop in the Halloween stores in the fall. Now Steve is in heaven with Vickey. This brings comfort to his daughters knowing they are together once again. He is survived by his daughters Stephanie (Tracy) Hershey and Libby (Don) Clark; sisters Jane Willis and Cinda Cary; grandchildren Alex Hershey, Drew Hershey, Aiden Clark and Ava Clark. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield with Pastor Craig Ferguson officiating. Following the service, family and friends are invited to the Bloomfield Christian Church for refreshments and fellowship from 2-4:00 p.m. Memorials in Steve’s name can be made to the Johnston River of Life United Methodist Church and mailed to P.O.
