Mary Lou Myers

Mary Lou McGee Myers, 82, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa joined her beloved husband, Max, on August 29, 2022. She was a resident at Mulberry Place and most recently the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born the only child of Roy and Enna Donaldson McGee on October 21, 1939 in Scotland County, Missouri. She graduated from Memphis High School in 1957 and went on to receive her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from North East Missouri State in Kirksville. On August 23, 1959, she married Max Myers in Memphis. The couple lived in Bloomfield and raised three children; Tim, Tony, and Amy. Mary Lou was a teacher and spent 27 years teaching 2nd Grade at Davis County Elementary School. Her favorite subject was science and she enjoyed collecting caterpillars and showing her students how they would turn into butterflies. She loved living on the farm with Max where they did many projects together after retirement. She loved to garden, quilt, and was particularly proud of her flower gardens. She loved to ride the 4-wheeler on the Bluebird Trail that Max built for her. She mostly adored her six grandchildren; Adam, Erin, Claire, Bryn, Madison, and Max. Mary Lou was so proud of them and loved to attend their activities. She hosted them each summer where she did projects with them including cooking and sewing. She never stopped being a teacher and will forever live in their hearts. She loved to travel and had visited every state in the contiguous United States. She was a member of the Tuesday Card Club, The Red Hat Society, and the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Tim (Nancy) Myers of Aliso Viejo, California, Dr. Tony (Kendall) Myers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Amy (Kurt) Tisdale of Bloomfield; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Michael (Sue) Myers, Charles (Judy) Myers both of Memphis, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Jim) Callahan of Godfrey, Illinois, Dr. Beverly Myers of Bellingham, Washington; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Visitation will begin at noon on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A private family service with burial at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that people donate school supplies to their favorite teacher.
